There’s a gap in foster care in East Texas. Let’s change that.

Understanding the Gap

Last year, there were 30,000 children in foster care in the state of Texas, and 2,000 of them were located in our region. One of the goals in foster care is to find a safe placement, either in a foster home or group residence, as close to their home as possible.

In East Texas, 1 in 2 kids were placed in a home within our region.

But the older kids get, the harder it is to find a placement for them. For kids over the age of 7, only 1 in 3 found a home in our region.

And as kids get older, they often have more needs because of the trauma they have experienced. For kids with these increased needs, only 1 in 4 found a home in East Texas.

That means 75% of these older kids who need help were sent away.

Hope Haven exists to serve these kids.

Residential Care

Hope Haven provides residential care in a safe, home-like environment to treat, stabilize, and prepare teenage girls for a more permanent home. A trained staff provides 24-hour care for up to 16 girls between the ages of 13 and 17.

We also operate a Supervised Independent Living home for young women who have aged out of foster care between the ages of 18 and 21. A Life Skills Mentor and Case Manager support residents as they progress in the areas of education, employment, finances, healthy relationships, and physical wellness.
